SUMMARY

Transitioning from a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or materials science to graduate studies in nuclear engineering is feasible, contingent upon the policies of the specific institution. Acceptance into a graduate program may vary based on the institution's criteria and willingness to consider applicants from different engineering disciplines. Prospective students should verify the prerequisites and requirements of their desired graduate programs to ensure eligibility.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of engineering degree structures
  • Familiarity with graduate school admission processes
  • Knowledge of interdisciplinary studies in engineering
  • Awareness of specific program requirements for nuclear engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research graduate program requirements for nuclear engineering at various institutions
  • Explore interdisciplinary engineering programs and their acceptance policies
  • Investigate potential prerequisite courses for transitioning into nuclear engineering
  • Connect with academic advisors for guidance on transitioning fields
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate students in engineering fields, academic advisors, and individuals considering a shift to nuclear engineering for graduate studies.

Is it possible for me to get a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or materials science, then go to graduate school from there to study nuclear engineering, or do you have to stay in the same engineering field throughout the entire period of study?

Depends on the institution and if they are willing to accept you or not.
