Is the proton charged positively due to the quarks spin? Same for the neutron. The photon does not have charge even though it has spin. What causes electrical charge?

No, charge is just a property of matter like mass. Quarks themselves have a charge before they become part of a hadron.

Electrons, which aren't quarks, also have charge.
