Cleaning My Car Glass that damaged from Phosphate plant

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the issue of cleaning car glass that has been damaged by chemical fumes from a phosphate plant, specifically due to corrosion from iodine and fluorine gases. Participants explore potential cleaning methods and the feasibility of restoring the glass.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes the glass as damaged due to corrosion from chemical fumes, seeking advice on cleaning methods.
  • Another participant argues that if the glass is corroded, it cannot be cleaned effectively and suggests replacement instead.
  • A different participant clarifies that corrosion means the surface is etched, indicating that it is indeed damaged.
  • One suggestion involves using glass polish or jeweler's rouge with a drill and polishing ball, noting that while it may improve the situation, complete restoration of the glass may not be possible.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express disagreement regarding the possibility of cleaning the corroded glass. Some believe it cannot be cleaned and should be replaced, while others suggest that polishing may improve the condition, albeit not completely restore it.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of various cleaning methods on corroded glass, and assumptions about the extent of damage and the definitions of "cleaning" versus "repairing" are not fully resolved.

As you say, the glass is not dirty, it's damaged. Cleaning only works if it's dirty. You need to replace it.

Thanks for your Reply,,

you mean It cannot be cleaned ?? because its corroded only not actually damaged

I'm just going by what you are telling me. If you are telling me it's not dirty, it's damaged, I'm going to reply that cleaning it isn't the answer.

Corroded means its surface is etched, that's damaged by me.

Get some glass polish (or jewelers rouge), a drill and polishing ball. Mother's or MaGuires makes both. Do not stay in one place very long or you will distort the glass. You will probably not get all of the etching out, but you can improve on the situation.
