Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a complementary book to Schroeder's "Thermal Physics" that includes more worked examples and solved problems. Participants are seeking recommendations for texts that align closely with Schroeder's content and pedagogical approach.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire for a book similar to Schroeder's that includes more examples and problems.
  • Another participant notes the uniqueness of Schroeder's approach, suggesting that finding an exact match may be challenging.
  • A suggestion is made to consider books focused on solved problems, with a specific title linked for reference.
  • A different participant proposes "Concepts in Thermal Physics" by Blundell and Bundell as a potential complementary resource, although they express uncertainty about meeting all the original criteria.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for additional resources but acknowledge the difficulty in finding a book that matches Schroeder's unique approach. Multiple suggestions are offered, indicating a lack of consensus on a single best option.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully defined what aspects of Schroeder's approach are most critical, and there are no detailed evaluations of the suggested books' contents or methodologies.

Who May Find This Useful

Hello all.

I am studying Thermal Physics from Schroeder's book. I really like this book, but the number of worked examples and solved problems is minimum. Could you please suggest me a complemetary book with worked examples and problems? The ideal book should be similar to Schroeder's, with the same contents and same approach to the subject.

Thank you so much.

That's going to be hard, because Schroeder's approach is quite unique.

You should take a look at books of solved problems, such as https://www.worldscientific.com/worldscibooks/10.1142/0883

I don't know if it is possible to meet all the criteria that you have given, but you might have a look at "Concepts in Thermal Physics" by Blundell and Bundell,
