SUMMARY

Sophia is modeling the thermal effects of laser irradiation on a three-layered human skin model using COMSOL Multiphysics, specifically the General Heat Transfer Module. She is experiencing issues with the temperature of the epidermis layer not changing as expected after laser exposure. The discussion highlights the need for further investigation into the current module's settings or the potential use of a different module to accurately monitor temperature changes across the skin layers, especially in response to varying laser wavelengths.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of COMSOL Multiphysics software
  • Familiarity with the General Heat Transfer Module
  • Knowledge of laser irradiation principles and their effects on biological tissues
  • Basic concepts of thermal modeling in biological systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the COMSOL Heat Transfer Module for enhanced thermal modeling capabilities
  • Investigate laser wavelength effects on thermal response in biological tissues
  • Learn how to set up and interpret temperature monitoring in COMSOL simulations
  • Research best practices for modeling multi-layered biological structures in COMSOL
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for biomedical engineers, researchers in thermal therapy, and COMSOL users interested in simulating laser-tissue interactions and thermal effects in biological models.

Hello everybody,

I am a newbie in Comsol and I would like your help regarding a problem I have.

I am modeling the 3-layered human skin (epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous tissue) and I would like to know how the temperature of each layer is affected after laser irradiation on the top layer (epidermis). Until now, I have been using the General Heat Transfer Module but the problem I seem to stumble upon is that the temperature of the top layer isn't changing. Also, I would like to monitor the temperature change when the laser wavelength changes and form a plot of some kind. So finally my question is, should I use a different module or am I in the right path and should investigate more the current one.

Thanks in advance,
Sophia
