SUMMARY

The discussion centers on creating a fast-melting plasma cutter for science projects. Key components include high-voltage power supplies, voltage control mechanisms, and compressed air systems. The consensus suggests that constructing such a device requires advanced electrical engineering knowledge, and it is recommended to purchase a commercially available plasma cutter instead of attempting a DIY project.

PREREQUISITES
  • High-voltage electrical systems
  • Voltage control techniques
  • Compressed air systems
  • Basic principles of plasma physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research high-voltage power supply design
  • Learn about voltage regulation methods
  • Explore compressed air applications in plasma cutting
  • Study the properties of plasma and its interaction with magnetic fields
USEFUL FOR

Electrical engineers, hobbyists interested in plasma technology, and students working on advanced science projects.

I've been wanting to make a plasma cutter that can melt metal fairly fast. I was just wondering how to! Also I was wondering if plasma is attracted to magnets, because I want to make a sort of force field but won't go into details.

I want to do this for a science project and info would help!

Thanks Mat1101

You need big dangerous voltages, ways to control these voltages, compressed air and the torch/leads. You can't convert a welder to one either.

Unless you're going to turn into an electrical engineer I would leave this one alone and just buy one.
