SUMMARY

The discussion centers on a 4th-year undergraduate student majoring in materials science with a minor in physics, seeking guidance on selecting a specific field of physics to pursue. The student expresses concern over the vastness of physics topics and the limited time available to explore them. Participants are encouraged to share personal experiences and stories that led them to their chosen fields, particularly in relation to complex problems like P vs NP.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics concepts and principles
  • Familiarity with materials science fundamentals
  • Knowledge of computational complexity, specifically P vs NP problems
  • Awareness of various fields within physics, such as theoretical and applied physics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the implications of P vs NP in theoretical physics
  • Explore career paths in materials science and their intersection with physics
  • Investigate different branches of physics, such as condensed matter physics
  • Learn about interdisciplinary approaches combining physics and computer science
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for undergraduate students in physics or materials science, academic advisors, and anyone contemplating a specialization within the field of physics.

I'm a 4th yr undergrad - materials science/physics minor.

How did you choose what particular field of physics you wanted to study?
There's too many topics and obviously too little time to learn everything...

Please share some stories of fate of how you got stuck solving P vs NP ;)

Thanks
