Deriving Shapes from Equations - Visual Representation

I came across this website: http://www1-c703.uibk.ac.at/mathematik/project/bildergalerie/gallery.html and was excited to see that they had a visual representation of each equation.

I am curious however as to how they derived a shape from an equation. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't you just use Maple to get 3D-graphs?

That is best accomplished with familiarizing yourself with the mathematical information to be gained from those equations.
