SUMMARY

DMT, or N,N-Dimethyltryptamine, is present in trace amounts in many living organisms, including humans. This compound, with the chemical formula C12H16N2, is found in various plants and animals and is known for its hallucinogenic properties. However, for DMT to have a pharmacological effect, it must be combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). The discussion emphasizes the scientific aspects of DMT while noting that the forum does not engage in discussions related to illegal drug use.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of organic chemistry, specifically the structure of DMT (C12H16N2).
  • Knowledge of pharmacology, particularly the role of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • Familiarity with botanical sources of DMT in plants and animals.
  • Basic comprehension of hallucinogenic substances and their effects.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the biochemical pathways involving DMT and MAOIs.
  • Explore the role of DMT in various plant species and its ecological significance.
  • Investigate the legal status and regulations surrounding DMT in different countries.
  • Study the effects of DMT on human consciousness and its historical use in indigenous cultures.
USEFUL FOR

Researchers in biochemistry, pharmacologists, and individuals interested in the intersection of chemistry and consciousness, particularly those studying the effects of hallucinogenic substances.

Evolution of consciousness and life
Hello. I am new to this forum, so be brutal.

Ive heard that C12H16N2 is within all living lifeforms, without being able to confirm this on www. Is this true? It can, for me, make sense since these are the most abundant atoms in our atmosphere, in space and under Earths crust. Where will I be able to find more information about this statement?

DMT is a controlled substance in most countries. It is found in very tiny amounts in many plants and animals, including humans.
It is primarily an hallucinogenic drug which taken straight has very little effect, it requires an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) to have pharmacologic effect.

Try wikipedia's article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N,N-Dimethyltryptamine

Based on your comment your interest exceeds basic science, so this is a reasonable science answer. PF does not deal with illegal drug use. Thread closed.
