SUMMARY

In a capacitor with plates of different sizes connected to a battery, both plates will acquire charges of equal magnitude. This is due to the principle that the total charge in a capacitor must remain zero. Regardless of the plate size, the charge distribution will adjust to maintain this balance when connected to a voltage source.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic capacitor theory
  • Knowledge of electric charge and voltage concepts
  • Familiarity with circuit connections involving batteries
  • Basic principles of electrostatics
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the relationship between capacitance and plate area
  • Explore the effects of dielectric materials on capacitor performance
  • Learn about the equations governing charge distribution in capacitors
  • Investigate practical applications of capacitors in electronic circuits
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, electrical engineers, and anyone interested in understanding capacitor behavior in electrical circuits.

if the capacitor plates are of different sizes and it is connected to battery, will even then the two plates get charges of exactly the same magnitude?

Yes. If the capacitor starts out with zero total chare, it must remain with zero total charge.
