When using the equation v^2=V0^2 + 2a (x)...

If V or V0 is negative, does it become positive after squaring? (Basically, is the negative sign in the bracket or outside)?

Thanks in advance.

V^2 and V0^2 will be positive quantities even when V or V0 is negative.
