SUMMARY

The discussion clarifies the orientation of a diode in a circuit diagram when connected to a battery under forward bias conditions. It establishes that the "fat" side of the diode should align with the "long" side of the battery when the battery acts as the power source. Conversely, if the battery is being charged by another source, the orientation changes, and the "fat" side does not align with the "long" side. This distinction is crucial for accurate circuit representation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic circuit diagram conventions
  • Knowledge of diode functionality and forward biasing
  • Familiarity with battery polarity and connections
  • Basic electronics terminology
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the characteristics of diodes in forward and reverse bias
  • Learn about circuit diagram standards and symbols
  • Explore battery types and their charging mechanisms
  • Investigate common mistakes in circuit diagram representation
USEFUL FOR

Electronics students, hobbyists, and professionals involved in circuit design and analysis who seek to understand diode orientation in relation to battery connections.

When drawing a circuit diagram with a forward bias dioide, is it the "fat" side of the dioide which is on the same side as the "long" side of the battery?

Thanks

If the battery is the source and thus providing the bias, yes. If the battery is being charged by another source (which thus provides the bias), no. So, you need to give a little more detail perhaps.
