SUMMARY

The key difference between the ESTIMATE and CONTRAST statements in SAS lies in their specific applications for hypothesis testing. The ESTIMATE statement is used to obtain specific linear combinations of parameters, while the CONTRAST statement is designed for testing specific hypotheses about the parameters. Understanding when to use each statement is crucial for accurate statistical analysis in SAS.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with SAS programming language
  • Understanding of linear models in statistics
  • Knowledge of hypothesis testing concepts
  • Basic experience with SAS documentation and resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Review the SAS documentation on ESTIMATE and CONTRAST statements
  • Explore practical examples of ESTIMATE and CONTRAST in SAS
  • Learn about linear combinations of parameters in statistical models
  • Investigate common pitfalls in using ESTIMATE and CONTRAST statements
USEFUL FOR

Statisticians, data analysts, and SAS users looking to deepen their understanding of hypothesis testing and parameter estimation in statistical models.

Hi,

I have been reading SAS docs regarding the code for these two, but I cannot seem to really understand the key difference between them, they almost seem interchangeable to me, although obviously they are not. What is the key difference between the contrast and estimate statement and how do you know when to use one over the other?

Thanks!
