SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the disparity between the slow movement of individual electric charges, approximately 10^-4 m/s, and the rapid propagation of electrical signals, which can approach the speed of light. Participants clarified that while individual charges move slowly, the electromagnetic signals travel at a significantly higher speed due to the nature of electromagnetic wave propagation. This phenomenon is explained by the principles of electromagnetism and the behavior of electric fields in conductive materials.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic electromagnetism principles
  • Familiarity with electric charge movement and conductivity
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic wave propagation
  • Basic physics concepts related to speed and velocity
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of electromagnetic wave propagation
  • Study the relationship between electric fields and signal transmission
  • Explore the speed of light in various media and its implications
  • Learn about the behavior of charges in conductive materials
USEFUL FOR

Physics students, electrical engineers, and anyone interested in understanding the dynamics of electric signals and their propagation in various media.

Thank you all for helping.
Today I have another question: If individual charges move at around (10^ -4) m/s, then how come signals are being able to travel at great speeds- like approaching speed of light? Isn't it too fast?

Did you understand the answers that were given in your first thread? You never replied after several people tried to help you there...
