Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the recent sighting and subsequent consumption of a bird species previously thought to be extinct. Participants engage in a mix of humor and speculation regarding the implications of this event, touching on themes of extinction, wildlife trade, and cultural references.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants humorously suggest that the bird may now be extinct again due to being eaten.
  • There is a repeated assertion that two birds are needed for reproduction, implying that the existence of the species is uncertain.
  • References are made to cultural media, such as an episode of Northern Exposure, to draw parallels between extinct species and the consumption of ancient animals.
  • A proposal is made that offering trade for live specimens could lead to more discoveries of the species.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a mix of humorous commentary and speculative ideas, with no clear consensus on the implications of the bird's sighting or the status of the species.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes assumptions about the survival of the species and the nature of wildlife trade, which remain unresolved.

I'm pretty sure two birds had to do it to make that bird. Start searching.

Doesn't mean they are still alive. They were probably some hick's dinner last week.

Reminds me of the episode of Northern Exposure where Joel discovers that the locals often find woolly mammoths in the ice, and eat them.

i bet the meat is delicious and incredibly tender.

If they really wanted specimens they should offer to trade 2 chickens and a 50lb bag of rice for the first 2 LIVE birds of that species brought in.
