Finding the Right Hydrology Book for Civil Engineering Students

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around recommendations for hydrology textbooks suitable for civil engineering students, with a focus on applied content at the undergraduate level.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks recommendations for hydrology books that are applicable to civil engineering at the undergraduate level.
  • Another participant mentions their school uses "Physical Hydrology" by S. Lawrence Dingman for hydrology courses, noting it is appropriate for students with introductory geology and physics backgrounds.
  • A participant expresses interest in considering "Applied Hydrogeology" by C.W. Fetter, despite it being primarily for hydrogeology, indicating they have relevant coursework in geology and physics.
  • One participant clarifies their field of study as Earth Sciences, not civil engineering.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants have differing fields of study and may have varying perspectives on the relevance of specific textbooks, but there is no consensus on a single recommended book for civil engineering students.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not fully explored the applicability of the suggested books to civil engineering specifically, and there may be assumptions regarding prerequisite knowledge that are not explicitly stated.

Who May Find This Useful

Civil engineering students seeking applied hydrology resources, as well as those in Earth Sciences looking for relevant textbooks.

Does anybody knows of a good hydrology book??

I am a civil engineering student, i want mostly applied stuff and at the undergraduate level.

Physics news on Phys.org
My school uses Applied Hydrogeology (4th Edition) by C.W. Fetter. It's for a 3rd year Earth science course with intoductory geology and physics as prereqs.

EDIT: woops, that's for hydrogeology, the one we use for hydrology is Physical Hydrology (2nd Edition) by S. Lawrence Dingman.

Thanks for replying. I will look into that book. Btw, i might consider the Hydrogeology one too, i took a Geology and all the general physics (plus advanced).

Are you a civil engineering student?

No, I'm in Earth Sciences.
