Discussion Overview

The discussion focuses on the differences between various flange standards, specifically BS EN 1092-2, BS 4504, BS 4505, BS 4722, and BS 4772. Participants are exploring the compatibility and specifications of these standards in the context of engineering applications.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether flanges to BS EN 1092-2 and BS 4504 match, suggesting that a comparison of dimensions and bases is necessary.
  • Another participant notes that BS EN 1092-2:1997 replaces BS 4504:Part 3:Section 3.2:1989, indicating a potential overlap but not confirming compatibility.
  • There is a suggestion that the British Standards Institute is adopting EN standards, which may affect the relevance of older standards.
  • A separate inquiry is made about the differences between ANSI B 16.5, 150 Flange and EN1092-2 Flange, indicating interest in comparing international standards.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the compatibility of the flanges. There are multiple competing views regarding the standards and their specifications, and the discussion remains unresolved.

Contextual Notes

Participants reference specific standards and suggest obtaining copies for comparison, indicating that there may be limitations in the available information regarding dimensions and specifications.

Who May Find This Useful

Engineers, standards compliance professionals, and individuals involved in flange design or specification may find this discussion relevant.

They might, but one should try to obtain both specs and do a comparison of dimensions and bases.

According to http://www.standardsdirect.org/standards/standards5/StandardsCatalogue24_view_8556.html

BS EN 1092-2:1997 replaces BS 4504:Part 3:Section 3.2:1989.

If one works for a company, the library should have both copies or a document that compares standards.

However it appears that the British Standards Institute are adopting the EN standards.
