SUMMARY

Fluid displacement occurs when an object is submerged in a fluid, primarily due to the force of gravity acting on the fluid. When an object is placed in a graduated cylinder filled with fluid, it displaces a volume equal to the volume of the object submerged. The force required to push the object down increases with depth, as the weight of the displaced fluid above the object exerts additional pressure. This principle is essential in understanding buoyancy and fluid mechanics.

Hello,
When an object is located inside a fluid, how it displaces the volume of the fluid? what is the cause of it ?
Thank you

Hello,
Gravity causes the displacement. When fluid is settled in a container, say a graduated cylinder, you can easily measure the level. When an object is submerged in a fluid it takes the same amount of force to push it down as there is now more force pushing down from the fluid displaced that is now above it. The force could be a denser material which gravity acts more strongly on than the fluid or an outside force, but the force increases the deeper you submerse relative to the weight of the fluid displaced.
