SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the geometry modeling of an X-ray irradiator using MCNP simulation. The user is uncertain whether to design the housing as a box or a cylinder and seeks guidance on defining the surfaces for both shapes. They aim to match the dimensions of the box to those of the cylinder, specifically aligning the height with the cylinder's height and adjusting the other dimensions to the cylinder's radius. Additionally, the user requests advice on improving their data card for the simulation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of MCNP simulation software
  • Knowledge of geometric modeling concepts
  • Familiarity with X-ray irradiator design
  • Basic skills in defining surfaces and dimensions in MCNP
NEXT STEPS
  • Research how to define surfaces in MCNP for both box and cylindrical geometries
  • Learn about optimizing data cards in MCNP simulations
  • Explore the implications of using square cross-section results for cylindrical designs
  • Investigate best practices for X-ray irradiator design and simulation
USEFUL FOR

Engineers and researchers involved in radiation physics, X-ray technology developers, and anyone working with MCNP simulations for geometric modeling.

TL;DR
This thread is about question of geometry of X-ray irradiator.
Hello, I am designing an X-ray irradiator with MCNP simulation. But I am still in confusion, whether my X-ray housing will be a box or a cylinder. If the box (macrobody identifier of MCNP) is required, I am trying to match the dimension as that of the cylinder, i,e, the height will be that of the cylinder height, and the other two dimensions will be that of the radius of the cylinder (surface 52 and 53). Can anybody please help me define the surfaces? Below is my attached text file. Forgot about the material card and all of the data card. Right now, I am only doing the geometry section. If possible, please suggest to me how to improve my data card, too.

Here is the code.

Do you want to use the results of a square cross-section irradiator silmulation to use to build a cylindrical one?

Yes. please.

Could you provide a diagram or sketch of the device you envision?
