Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around troubleshooting a compatibility issue between a PCI GeForce 2 MX400 graphics card and a PC133 GfXcel motherboard. Participants explore potential reasons for the system failing to boot and suggest various approaches to resolve the issue.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant describes the symptoms of the problem, including the system powering on but not reaching POST, and mentions adjustments made to BIOS settings.
  • Another participant suggests that software may be required to configure the PCI card, noting that newer PCI cards often come with setup disks.
  • Several participants inquire whether the motherboard has onboard video, indicating that it may need to be disabled for the PCI card to function properly.
  • One participant mentions the possibility of needing to assign an IRQ from the BIOS setup as a potential solution.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express varying opinions on the potential causes of the issue, particularly regarding the need to disable onboard video and the role of BIOS settings. No consensus is reached on a definitive solution.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not provide detailed information on the specific BIOS settings or jumper configurations that may be necessary, leaving some assumptions and technical steps unresolved.

Hey, I've been having a problem that's been making my skull crack.

I'm trying to figure out why this PCI GeForce 2 MX400 64 MB DDR will not work in this PC133 GfXcel motherboard. When I insert the card and start the PC up, it sort of powers up, with the fans and LEDs going, but it won't go to the POST or boot up. It just sits there making a quiet hum. First I thought it was my BIOS settings, so I messed around with them, changed the default Graphics Adapter to PCI instead of AGP (It doesn't even have an AGP slot), but no results turned up. So, if anyone has any suggestions, please say so. This is bugging me like crazy. If you want to know the rest of the specifications, look below:

600 MHz Celeron
4 GB Hard Drive IDE Master, 6.5 GB Hard Drive IDE Slave
384 MB SD RAM
Windows XP Pro
PC133 GfXcel Motherboard with SiS 6xx Chipset
Using most up to date version of its BIOS

Again, thanks for any help.

I think that you have to use software for configuring your PCI card to change some system settings. The latest PCI cards are coming with setup disks.

Does you MB have onboard video? If so you will need to find out how to disable it. On some MBs it is nearlly impossible.

Possibly a jumper on the motherboard...

Also, you may neet to assign it an irq from bios setup.
