"Hall of Fame" for PF?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around the idea of creating a "Hall of Fame" for insightful posts on the PF forum, where users could vote on exceptional contributions. This feature would permanently showcase individual posts rather than entire threads, enhancing visibility for valuable insights. Participants believe it could motivate thoughtful contributions and provide recognition for quality posts, even suggesting a point system for user contributions. Concerns were raised about potential clutter and the effectiveness of linking back to original threads for context. Overall, the concept aims to celebrate and elevate the best content within the community.

Okay, so maybe this is a horrible idea but I just want to put it out there: I was wondering, what about a hall of fame for PF?

If there is a particularly insightful or interesting post that people like, they could give it a certain reaction/vote, and then with enough reactions/votes, that post comes on a dedicated "hall of fame" where people can see all of the posts that lots of people have found interesting or enjoyed reading (with links to the original thread also included). This could help exposure of the best posts and let more people get more insight out of what they read on PF.

You could split it up between insight posts, A-level, B-level and thus invent some new trophies for those of you who contribute professionally. (I know this excludes myself, but then again I'm aware I'm mostly benign noise in the background.)

yes, that sounds really good, and also motivates people to write really thoughtful posts!

How is this different than "hot threads", which already exists ?

It would a. Be a permanent showcase of the posts and b. Aim to showcase individual posts, not whole threads.

Individual posts are generally embedded in a contest and removed from it, some will not be as good.

...
Huh?
Sorry, do you mind clarifying? I'm not exactly following what you mean by that :)

Ohhhhhh right I get it now, thanks

You could also link to the thread so people can see the context. Maybe some will not be as good out of context but it would still shed light on the best posts either way.

Perhaps it will clutter things needlessly up but it sounded like a good idea initially. A way to reward professional contributions.

Also, it doesn't have to be a trophy; a clap on the shoulder from the smart people on here is worth a lot. Especially for someone like me who had the incredible honor of just being on a list for people to vote on (although I forget for what precisely). I knew I didn't have a chance. Still, it meant a lot to me just being mentioned in the same breath as some of the braniacs on here. So don't under estimate the potential benefits.

How about a look at the general quality of a user's posts spread over several threads, perhaps invent some kind of point system, and make a cumulative score?

Too messy perhaps...?

I thought maybe just put the posts out there, and if the context is necessary, then there's a link to the thread so people can see said context. But I can imagine the post and what the post is quoting, as well as maybe the title of the thread, would be enough.

I'm sorry, I just liked @TensorCalculus original idea.
Aw thanks :-)

The only "Hall of Fame" I am willing to acknowledge is the "great one-liners by users" thread that sadly "benefited" from the departure of a famous user whose posts gained the most quotes.

Perhaps not exactly before my time as I have an inkling as to whom you're referring but I see your point. On the other hand you cannot expect @TensorCalculus to know about that much forum history. So I guess that pretty much concludes this thread.

Yeah... I am afraid I do not know what you are referencing to. But it sounds like a similar sort of "Hall of fame" that didn't go well: so as @sbrothy said, I guess this thread is over
