Schools Has anyone obtained a MSc from Imperial College?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a prospective student's acceptance into Imperial College London's postgraduate course "Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces." The student is seeking insights from alumni about their experiences in the program, particularly in relation to pursuing a Ph.D. in theoretical physics with a focus on supersymmetry and string theories. The student acknowledges Imperial's strong reputation in theoretical physics, while also noting the pros and cons of studying in central London compared to smaller towns. They are considering other options in the EU and Canada but view Imperial as a top choice based on rankings. The student expresses a tendency to accept the offer and seeks advice on what to expect from life at Imperial and in London, including confirmation of their estimated living costs, which range from £900 to £1,000 per month.

Hello,

I have been accepted at Imperial's postgraduate course "Quantum FIelds and Fundamental Forces" full time and have received an offer.

This means that I have 20 days to decide If I will attend the course or not.

Has anyone graduated from this course and is willing to share his experiences with me.

Keep in mind that I want to continue my studies and optain a Ph.D. in theoretical physics and work in Suppersymmetry and string theories,

I don't have a degree from Imperial; but I do have PhD students who studied there (albeit not that course, I'm an experimentalist) and I visit Imperial (in Kensington) quite frequently.
It is one of the leading universities in the UK (and the world) with a very strong reputation when it comes to theoretical physics.
Like any university it has pros and cons; it wouldn't be my first choice if you prefer to study/live near a campus in a small town, but if you like central London and can find somewhere nice(ish) to live it is ideal.

What are your other options?

My options regard universities from the EU and Canada. however, Imperial is one of my best option according to QS and Shangai Rankings along with some others. I understand that whatever option hides a risk.

keeping that in mind, I tend to accept the offer.

The reason why, I posted this thread is to know what I should expect from my life at London at Imperial. Any detail the internet does not say

I calculate to spend aproximately 900-1000 pounds a moth for living costs (600-700 for rent and 300 for food). Are my caluclations correct ?

After a year of thought, I decided to adjust my ratio for applying the US/EU(+UK) schools. I mostly focused on the US schools before, but things are getting complex and I found out that Europe is also a good place to study. I found some institutes that have professors with similar interests. But gaining the information is much harder than US schools (like you have to contact professors in advance etc). For your information, I have B.S. in engineering (low GPA: 3.2/4.0) in Asia - one SCI...
I graduated with a BSc in Physics in 2020. Since there were limited opportunities in my country (mostly teaching), I decided to improve my programming skills and began working in IT, first as a software engineer and later as a quality assurance engineer, where I’ve now spent about 3 years. While this career path has provided financial stability, I’ve realized that my excitement and passion aren’t really there, unlike what I felt when studying or doing research in physics. Working in IT...
Hello, I’m an undergraduate student pursuing degrees in both computer science and physics. I was wondering if anyone here has graduated with these degrees and applied to a physics graduate program. I’m curious about how graduate programs evaluated your applications. In addition, if I’m interested in doing research in quantum fields related to materials or computational physics, what kinds of undergraduate research experiences would be most valuable?
