Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the search for access to Kip Thorne's ph237 Gravitational Waves course, which appears to have been removed from its original location. Participants are exploring alternative means to access the course materials, particularly the video lectures.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • One participant reports that the course was previously available on Kip Thorne's website but is now inaccessible, prompting a search for alternatives.
  • Another participant suggests using the Internet Archive to find archived versions of the course materials, providing a specific link to an archived page.
  • A later reply indicates that while the archived page was found, it only contains HTML pages and does not include links to the video lectures, leaving the search unresolved.
  • One participant expresses gratitude for the suggestion but notes the limitation of the archived content.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the unavailability of the course and the utility of the Internet Archive, but the discussion remains unresolved regarding access to the actual video content.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights limitations in accessing archived content, specifically the absence of video links in the archived pages.

I had been working through ph237 Gravitational Waves through Kip Thorne's website over the past year or so. It's been a few months since I visited and now the course is gone (but the link to the course is still there curiously). I tried emailing Thorne but as yet received no reply.

Anybody know of a mirror to this link, or have some other means to get access to the course (which was comprised of all the classes on video).

TIA

Try this http://web.archive.org/web/20070430194256/http://elmer.caltech.edu/ph237/

If for some reason you are not able to access a site or page, use the http://www.archive.org/index.php" to find it archived. (Copy and past URL.) Of course, if it's a site that's regularly updated and you're looking for the latest info, it won't be very useful

Neutrino,

Thanks for your help, learned something new. Unfortunately, the only thing archived was the html pages, none of the links to the videos are archived, so still looking.
