In an AC circuit, where there is only one ideal inductor and resistor, the resonance frequency occurs if the impedance of the inductor is equal to the resistance of the resistor. Why?

I'll move this to the Homework Help forums. Even though it is not strictly homework, it is still coursework, and fits better there.

There is no resonance with just an inductor and resistor. You need both an inductor and a capacitor to make up a resonant circuit.
