Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around measuring fluid levels without using sensors submerged in the liquid. The context includes a project aimed at measuring the fuel level in an ultralight gas tank, with a focus on electronics components and circuit design.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire to learn electronics through practical projects, specifically measuring fluid levels without sensors in the liquid.
  • Another participant questions the clarity of the project goal, asking whether the measurement is for a cup or a gas tank, and emphasizes the importance of selecting a reliable sensor.
  • A participant mentions plans to use a breadboard and the listed components for testing, seeking confirmation on whether they are on the right track.
  • There is a brief acknowledgment from the original poster that they have resolved their issues, though details on how this was achieved are not provided.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not reach a consensus on the approach to measuring fluid levels without sensors, as participants express differing views on the necessity and type of sensors involved.

Contextual Notes

Participants do not clarify the specific method or components that would be effective for the proposed project, leaving some assumptions and dependencies on definitions unresolved.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in electronics projects, particularly those exploring non-traditional methods for measuring fluid levels, may find this discussion relevant.

Hello
I'm new to electronics and trying to learn. I thought the best way for me is to watch videos on youtube and ask questions from some more knowledgeable people than me on the subject.

That being said, I want to try what I believe to be a simple project.
I want to measure the fluid level of a plastic cup without having any sensors inside the liquid.
Help me out if if you see were I might be falling off the wagon per say.

1 - small 2 x 4 in board
1 - LM339N IC Quad Diff comparator 14 dip
4 - led
1 - push button NO
1 - Potentiometer (size unknown)
several resisters (size unknown)
2 -copper contact pads

any help in this would be greatly appriciated.
What I am trying to make this for is to measure the fuel in my ultralight gas tank.
which is out of sight while flying.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a homework problem - what have you tried / thought about so far.

first I thought I would get a breadboard, and the components listed above and do some testing. just wanting to see if I am on the right track,or if their maybe a component that would be needed or some other knowledge I am not thinking of

You want to do what ?
Measure fluid in a cup or the gas level in a tank ?

All your trouble is the sensor. Do you know what sensor you will use yet ?
Once you have a reliable (mechanically and electrically) sensor, the rest is easy.

Got it all sorted and done. Thanks
