AI Thread Summary
To verify the solution for the equation 2y + 30 = 8y, substitute y = 5 back into the original equation. This results in 2(5) + 30, which equals 40, and 8(5), which also equals 40. Since both sides are equal, y = 5 is confirmed as the correct solution. Proper organization of the work is important for clarity, ensuring each step is clearly defined. The verification process involves checking if the substituted value satisfies the original equation.

What you're verifying is your solution. To do this, substitute the value you found for y into the original equation. By doing so, you should end up with a true statement, such as 7 = 7 for example.

Your work is not well organized. Each line of your work should be an equation.
Start with the equation
2y + 30 = 8y
Add -2y to both sides: ##30 = 8y + (-2y)##
Combine the terms on the right: ##30 = 6y##
Divide both sides by 6: ##5 = y##, or ##y = 5##

Check (verify your solution) by substituting 5 for y in the original equation.

So
I plunged in 5 to 6 or 6*5=30
30=30
Is it correct anyone

Yes. That verifies that 5 is a solution of the equation 2y + 30 = 8y.

You're very welcome, but take a good look at what I wrote in post #3 about organizing your work.

Actually, you should substitute your solution into the equation you were given to solve initially.

That is to say, substitute 5 for y in the equation: 2y +30 = 8y .

Verify that what you then obtain for the left hand side is equal to what you obtain for the right hand side.

You mean "6y= 30"

6y/6=30/6
Y=5
Now how can I verify this equation?
2(5)+ 30= `10+ 30= 40
8(5)= 40.
Yes, those are the same.

No need making this so complicated.
Equation in one variable given.
Solve equation.
Put solution value (substitute) into original equation.
Does the solution work? Either yes or no.Post #1 seems to now be adjusted to fit the expected homework help format.

However, it seems to me that it's the solution that's to be verified, rather than the equation. (A point of view consistent with your post.)
