It comes form "Ortho" ("straight" in Ancient Greek).You know that on a cycle of benzene,2 radicals can ocupy 3 distinct positions
"ortho","meta" and "para".In this case,it's Iod and methyl.

Could that O mean Ortho? Aromatic coumpounds can be said to be para, ortho or meta directing, depending on where the substituent is likely to be placed. Sounds familiar?
