To calculate the capacitance in a series RC circuit with a 12k ohm resistor and an unknown capacitor connected to a 13-volt battery, the voltage across the capacitor after one second is 8 volts. The charging equation for the capacitor is q = CV(1 - e^(-t/CR)). By substituting the known values into this equation, the capacitance can be determined. The time constant for the circuit is given by the product of resistance and capacitance (CR). Solving the equation will yield the capacitance value needed for the circuit.

the problem is a series combination of 12k resistor and an unknown capacitor is connected to a 13 volt battery. One second after the circuit is completed, the voltage across the capacitor is 8v. Determine the capacitance of the capacitor.

This is the problem related of charging a capacitor.
The equation for the charge on the capacitor as a function of time is

\q = CV \left( 1 - e^\ -t/CR \right)
