Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the methods for creating and uploading diagrams, specifically circuit diagrams, on PhysicsForums. Participants explore various software options and the use of LaTeX for this purpose.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the possibility of drawing diagrams directly on PhysicsForums instead of uploading images.
  • Another participant suggests using the "upload" button to upload images, noting that the images must already exist on the user's computer.
  • A participant provides a list of accepted file types and size restrictions for uploads.
  • One participant expresses interest in using LaTeX with CircuitIkz for diagram creation, indicating a potential method for drawing diagrams.
  • Another participant acknowledges uncertainty about the compatibility of LaTeX commands with the forum's MathJax implementation.
  • Suggestions are made to use various free software for sketching and circuit analysis to prepare diagrams before uploading.
  • A participant clarifies that MathJax supports only certain LaTeX commands, implying limitations on what can be achieved with LaTeX on the forum.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need to upload pre-created diagrams, but there is uncertainty regarding the capabilities of LaTeX for diagram creation on the forum, leading to multiple competing views on the best approach.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the uncertainty about the specific LaTeX commands supported by MathJax and the lack of consensus on the best software for diagram creation.

Instead of uplading a picture, i want to draw a circuit diagram or some kind of a diagram and upload it to PhysicsForums, is there a way to do that?

Physics news on Phys.org
You can upload it to the forums directly with the "upload" button (to the right of "post reply").
It has to exist as image somewhere, it won't work without any uploading.

Yes.

Use a drawing program.

Save on your computer as:
Accepted file types: zip, txt, pdf, png, jpg, jpeg, jpe, gif, docx, xlsx
Max image width: 960 pixels
Max image height: 720 pixels

Use the upload button at the right bottom, below the reply text box to upload.

Ok, thanks i thought there could exist some way of creating it with LateX using something like CircuitIkz I've seen on ShareLaTeX.

Could be.
I don't know about that.

As you may know, we do allow using LaTeX in posts. I don't know whether our version supports what you want to do. Check the http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/tex.html#supported-latex-commands.

Prepare your drawings using suitable software on your own computer and then upload to PF .

Google :

Sketching free software
CAD free software .
Circuit analysis free software .

LaTeX support here is provided by MathJax, things not included there won't work.
