SUMMARY

R is widely regarded in both industry and academic settings, particularly for data analysis in scientific research. Many professionals at a national nuclear lab utilize R for analyzing experimental data, highlighting its credibility and effectiveness. Additionally, R is the standard tool in the Applied Math department at a prominent math/science university, reinforcing its acceptance and usage in rigorous academic environments. For those unable to access SAS due to financial constraints, R serves as a viable and respected alternative.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of statistical analysis concepts
  • Familiarity with R programming language
  • Knowledge of data visualization techniques in R
  • Experience with data manipulation using R packages like dplyr
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore R's data analysis capabilities through the "tidyverse" collection of packages
  • Learn about R's integration with RStudio for enhanced productivity
  • Investigate statistical modeling techniques using R's built-in functions
  • Research best practices for data visualization in R using ggplot2
USEFUL FOR

Data analysts, researchers in scientific fields, and students in mathematics or statistics who are seeking effective tools for data analysis without the financial burden of proprietary software like SAS.

Especially in comparison to SAS? I really don't have the money to buy SAS and I can't get it from my school so I'm looking for alternatives.

It is very well regarded, but if your school requires you to have SAS you need to buy SAS.

I know that this is anecdotal, but I know a few people working at a giant national nuclear lab, and they say that they all use R to analyze experimental data. It's also the standard in the Applied Math department at my school(which is a somewhat well-known math/science university). So I hope that's encouraging.
