How to Calculate the Effective Mass of Carriers?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The effective mass of carriers can be calculated using the appropriate equations related to semiconductor physics. In this discussion, the focus is on donor impurities located near the conduction band and how to apply the equation for the conduction band energy level (Ec) to determine effective mass. The participants confirm that utilizing the conduction band energy is the correct approach for calculating effective mass in this context.

The Attempt at a Solution

I understand you can calculate the effective mass by using the equation above. What I'm unsure about is the "calculate the effective mass of the carriers" part. A donor impurity would be near the conduction band, therefore do we simply use the equation for Ec in the question? A bit unsure.

I would expect that, but I'm not sure.
