To convert kilojoules (kJ) to joules (J), multiply by 1,000, as 1 kJ equals 1,000 J. For converting milliamperes (mA) to amperes (A), use the conversion factor of 1 A being equal to 1,000 mA. Similarly, megavolts (MV) convert to volts (V) by multiplying by 1,000,000 since 1 MV equals 1,000,000 V. OnlineConversion.com is a useful resource for various unit conversions. Understanding SI unit prefixes like kilo, milli, and mega simplifies these calculations.

See the "prefixes" section of this entry at wikipedia.org about SI units:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI

k = *1000 ("kilo")
m = 1/1000 ("milli")
M = *1000000 ("Mega")

And I like to multiply by 1 to do my unit conversions, like this:

10mA * (1A/1000mA) = 0.010A

or

57kJ * (1000J/1kJ) = 57000J

The book claims the answer is that all the magnitudes are the same because "the gravitational force on the penguin is the same". I'm having trouble understanding this. I thought the buoyant force was equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. Weight depends on mass which depends on density. Therefore, due to the differing densities the buoyant force will be different in each case? Is this incorrect?
