SUMMARY

The discussion centers on deriving the first Ginzburg-Landau equation from the free energy F of a superconductor. Participants recommend consulting "Lectures on Phase Transitions and the Renormalization Group" by Goldenfield and "Introduction to Phase Transitions and Critical Phenomena" by Stanley for guidance. These resources provide foundational insights into phase transitions relevant to the derivation process. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the theoretical framework behind superconductivity.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Ginzburg-Landau theory
  • Familiarity with free energy concepts in thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of phase transitions in condensed matter physics
  • Basic grasp of critical phenomena
NEXT STEPS
  • Study "Lectures on Phase Transitions and the Renormalization Group" by Goldenfield
  • Read "Introduction to Phase Transitions and Critical Phenomena" by Stanley
  • Explore advanced topics in superconductivity theory
  • Research the mathematical derivation of the Ginzburg-Landau equations
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, graduate students in condensed matter physics, and researchers focusing on superconductivity and phase transitions will benefit from this discussion.

hi

I have problem with deriving the 1st Ginzburg-Landau Equations from the free energy F of a superconductor. I don't expect a full derivation but if possible I would appreciate any pointers

Thanks in advance

I think you can find it in Goldenfield's Lectures on phase transitions and the renormalization group, or possibly Stanley's Introduction to phase transitions and critical phenomena.

Hope this helps.
