SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on creating holograms independently, emphasizing the necessity of a laser and an optical plate. The Holography Handbook is recommended for practical tips, including constructing an optical table using sand. Participants highlight the importance of a laser with a suitable coherence length and suggest sourcing materials from Edmund Scientific. Additionally, users express interest in traditional holography methods that utilize lasers, seeking free resources for learning.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of laser technology and coherence length
  • Familiarity with optical components, specifically optical plates
  • Basic knowledge of holography principles
  • Ability to construct an optical table for holography experiments
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the construction of an optical table using sand
  • Learn about laser coherence length and its importance in holography
  • Explore traditional holography techniques that utilize lasers
  • Investigate free online resources and tutorials for DIY holography projects
USEFUL FOR

Amateur physicists, hobbyists interested in optics, and anyone looking to create holograms using traditional methods.

I want to create a hologram by myself . How can I create it . I know that I need a laser a optic plate . But what is optic plate ? Can I make it by myself ?

I mentioned this book in a recent holography thread, but I'll mention it here again. Check out the Holography Handbook:

It has lots of practical tips for making your own holograms, including making your optical table with a sand table -- pretty creative. You'll still need a laser with a reasonable coherence length, but the rest of the stuff is easy to make or buy from Edmund Scientific, etc.

A few friends of mine did a Holography project for an experimental physics class last year. I'll see if I can find a copy of the paper for you.

Hi, Chris. Welcome to PF, and thanks for the assist.

It's Christastic.

Do I care how ecstatic he is about being Chris? :-p

heheh, call me mud if you want to, what's in a name?

I want to learn the tradisional way to make hologram but the link you recommend to me is not the tradisional way because it doesn't use laser . Do you have another link .
