I'm having a somewhat different problem: whatever is going on in the editor changes my LaTeX to symbols like those from the "insert symbol" dropdown, but only after I hit "Post". It previews as LaTeX but posts as symbols. That is most emphatically not the behavior I want or expect. For one thing, LaTeX is more readable than those symbols.

I agree with @fresh_42 that whatever change happened to the editor is causing more problems than it solves.

hmm yeah latex appears to be rendering in the editor outside of preview now. fix one thing, break another...

I agree, but it was part of a core software update. Not my decision. The sync between mathjax, the editor, preview and when and when not to render is a bit of a jungle gym.

Addendum: Although the tags [iTex] and [Tex] worked while I had tested the above functionality, they do not work now anymore that I have revisited the page, including the preview:

If you edit my post (#67) then you see the correct code, and it also renders correctly in preview. Just not after posting it (anymore).

This is no problem for me, since I do not really use the Tex and iTex tags, only the abbreviations with hashtag and dollars. But it should be known.
 
Although LaTeX is still working fine for thread posting, for me it's broken again in a direct message. Inserting LaTeX code into a DM works OK for the first preview but editing and previewing again gives a broken equation that can't be further edited and is even hard to delete. And if I generate a DM with LaTeX offline and copy it into the DM edit window, it looks OK before posting but it's broken when it appears in the string of DMs. :frown:

Spectacular results! I no longer even have to refresh the page occasionally, as I used to, to get proper previewing. Kudos to Greg.
