SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on performing a dynamic thermal analysis in ANSYS for a model involving an alumina pin on a rotating steel disc. The user aims to calculate the surface contact temperature of the pin but encounters limitations with LS-DYNA, which only supports structural analysis. The conversation highlights the need for a method to integrate rotational speed into the thermal analysis, emphasizing the challenges of applying frictional heat as a moving heat flux.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of ANSYS thermal analysis capabilities
  • Familiarity with LS-DYNA for structural analysis
  • Knowledge of frictional heat transfer concepts
  • Basic principles of dynamic simulations in mechanical engineering
NEXT STEPS
  • Research methods to couple thermal and structural analysis in ANSYS
  • Explore alternative software for dynamic thermal analysis
  • Learn about implementing moving heat flux in thermal simulations
  • Investigate frictional heat modeling techniques in ANSYS
USEFUL FOR

IMP! how to perform a dynamic thermal analysis on ANSYS?

I have to simulate a model having an alumina pin on a rotating steel disc to calculate the surface contact temperature of the pin in ANSYS, and to give rotational speed to the disc LS-DYNA has to be used. But thermal analysis cannot be performed with LS-DYNA...only structural analysis can be done.
So please someone tell me how I can perform the analysis. I am in great need of an advice. This is my B.Tech project and it has to be done.
Someone help!

Have you tried any frictional based analytic solution first?

yes i,ve done that...
but I've taken the frictional heat as a moving heat flux
it is hard to give any kind of motion to components and do a thermal analysis
