Integrated development enviroment

What is an integrated development environment and what are the features found in it, especially for coding, initial error detection, for debugging including single stepping, breakpoints, variables/expressions report window

Checkout Netbeans or Eclipse for features of a full IDE:

Personally, I use Netbeans for development as it has most plugins I need included in the initial install.

Yea but i couldn't get a proper answer because they have explained about stuff outside my requirements
