SUMMARY

When using remote access software to connect to a home PC from a university network, all internet activities occur through the home PC's internet connection. The remote access software emulates keyboard and mouse inputs while displaying the home screen on the university system. This means that regardless of the university's network speed, downloads and internet usage will utilize the home PC's connection, provided the software does not interfere with the ethernet hardware function.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of remote access software functionality
  • Knowledge of network configurations and internet routing
  • Familiarity with basic computer hardware operations
  • Awareness of how ethernet connections operate
NEXT STEPS
  • Research different remote access software options, such as TeamViewer or AnyDesk
  • Learn about network configurations and how they affect remote access
  • Explore the implications of using a VPN with remote access software
  • Investigate the performance differences between various internet connections, such as fiber vs. cable
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for remote workers, IT professionals, and students who require efficient access to their home PCs while utilizing university networks.

Ive recently been using remote access software to access my home PC from the university campus as it is much easier than carrying my laptop around everywhere.

When it comes to downloading from the internet, which internet connection will be used? My home PC, or the university network? Or does it depend on the software i am using?

Thanks in advance,
Dan.

Remote access is just emulating keyboard and mouse inputs to your home computer while displaying your home computer's screen on your university system. Any internet activity will take place on your home system's hardware, assume the remote access software isn't also intercepting ethernet hardware function.
