Discussion Overview

The discussion centers on guidance for advancing from a Grade 10 introductory chemistry course to Grade 11 chemistry studies. Participants share resources and suggestions for further study, focusing on chemical families, the periodic table, and problem-solving in chemistry.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Technical explanation

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks advice on how to prepare for Grade 11 chemistry after completing an introductory course.
  • Another participant suggests reading standard general chemistry texts and practicing problems, specifically mentioning a book by Raymond Chang.
  • A different participant recommends "Principles of Chemistry" by Atkins, citing it as a helpful resource for entering chemistry engineering.
  • Participants express gratitude for the suggestions and indicate plans to utilize library resources for further study.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the value of using standard chemistry texts and practicing problems, but no consensus on a single best resource is reached.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not address specific topics within Grade 11 chemistry or the depth of material covered in the recommended texts.

Hello Physics forums!
Im currently in Grade 10 learning the intro course on Chemistry. Can someone lead me to the right direction if I want to advance study for Grade 11 Chem? Please and thank you!

EDIT:
BTW Grade 10 Chem was just an intro course on different types of chemical families, a simple lecture on the periodic table, and it was mostly around balancing equations. Easy Stuff!

Read any standard general chemistry text and practice the problems for instance the one authored by Raymond Chang . Answer some chemistry problems here on physicsforums when the school season is happening again.

Thank you

genius: Look up this text, atkins, principles of chemistry. It is the first book I used when entering chem engineering.

Thank you! And Now I am headed to the library :D
