SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the issues encountered when using the implot function in IRAF with the xgterm terminal on macOS High Sierra 10.13.3. Users reported that while implot could display plots, keystroke functions were unresponsive, and the xgterm terminal became inaccessible after opening implot. The problem was resolved by completely deleting and reinstalling IRAF via astroconda, which restored full functionality to the implot feature.

  • Familiarity with IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility)
  • Understanding of terminal emulators, specifically xgterm and xterm
  • Basic knowledge of macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 environment
  • Experience with astroconda for package management
NEXT STEPS
  • Research troubleshooting techniques for IRAF terminal issues
  • Learn about the differences between xgterm and xterm functionalities
  • Explore best practices for reinstalling software using astroconda
  • Investigate alternative plotting tools compatible with IRAF
USEFUL FOR

I downloaded IRAF to my machine using astroconda, and everything works perfectly except the implot function when using an xgterm terminal (it kind of works with xterm, but not really). I can get it to display a plot with implot, but none of the keystroke functions work at all and I am not even able to make the implot window active by clicking it or anything like that. I am not able to return to xgterm either once implot has been opened, so I have to restart everything. Does anybody know what the problem could or what I need to do to make implot work? I'm sure I've left out some information that is necesarry for answering this question, so let me know what you need to know and I'll tell you. Thank you for your help.
