Programs Is a Berkeley Physics Degree Better Than SAC State for Northern California?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the value of obtaining a BS degree in Physics from Sacramento State University (SAC State) versus a BA or BS from UC Berkeley, particularly for job opportunities in Northern California. It highlights that UC Berkeley offers a BA in physics or astrophysics and a BS in engineering physics, while SAC State provides a BS in physics. Participants note that the distinction between a BA and BS is often minimal, with prestigious institutions like MIT and Harvard awarding BAs in various fields, suggesting that the degree type may not significantly impact career prospects. The consensus indicates that the reputation of the institution may carry more weight than the specific degree designation.

I'm just curious if there really a better opportunity if I get a BS degree in Physics from Berkeley instead of SAC State if I only wanted to work and live in the Northern California.

The difference between a BA and BS is trivial. For example, some huge name school like MIT or Harvard only gives BA's. Some community colleges give BS's.

Thanks Pengwuino, that was going to my second question after reading the first reply.

MIT gives BSc. or BEng for nearly every (I think it is actually for all but am taking the conservative wording) course if you major in Literature you graduate with a BSc. in Literature.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
