AI Thread Summary
A small scratch on a laptop screen's plastic cover can potentially be addressed without replacing the entire screen. The plastic cover serves to protect the underlying glass of the LCD. However, some manufacturers do not offer replacement services for just the plastic cover, directing users to seek third-party options instead. ScreenTek is one such company that can replace the plastic cover, but they require the original screen to be in stock for the repolarization process. If the display is still visible but appears dark, this may indicate a backlight issue, which could necessitate a full LCD screen replacement depending on the manufacturer.

I have a small scratch on my screen, at the plastic cover level. Is it possible to have the plastic cover replaced without replacing the entire screen?

I would think so. The LCD itself will have a glass cover, and the plastic over-cover would be there to protect the glass. Where did you buy the laptop? You should be able to give their service department a call for a quote.

I called them and they told me they don't offer this service and advised me to look for a third party service. I'll see what I can find.

Werg,

A company called ScreenTek (http://www.screentekinc.com) can do this for you. The only thing is, they have to have your screen in stock to complete the repolarization of the screen. This is due to the fact that the repolarization process can be difficult and if the first try doesn't work out, they have to have a back up screen for you.

Good luck.

What Kevin said as well. If the screen is still visibile, but it's darker than hell, it's the backlight. Depending on the manufacturer, it may require the entire LCD screen section to be replaced.

This week, I saw a documentary done by the French called Les sacrifiés de l'IA, which was presented by a Canadian show Enquête. If you understand French I recommend it. Very eye-opening. I found a similar documentary in English called The Human Cost of AI: Data workers in the Global South. There is also an interview with Milagros Miceli (appearing in both documentaries) on Youtube: I also found a powerpoint presentation by the economist Uma Rani (appearing in the French documentary), AI...
Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
