Is percent yield based on grams or moles?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

Percent yield is calculated using the formula $$yield=\frac {actual yield}{theoretical yield}$$, and it is essential to ensure that both actual and theoretical yields are measured in the same units, whether grams or moles. The discussion confirms that the choice of units does not affect the percent yield as long as consistency is maintained. Therefore, both grams and moles can be used interchangeably in the calculation, provided that the same unit is applied to both yields.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of stoichiometry
  • Familiarity with chemical yield concepts
  • Basic knowledge of unit conversions
  • Ability to perform calculations involving fractions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the concept of theoretical yield in chemical reactions
  • Learn about the significance of actual yield in laboratory experiments
  • Explore unit conversion techniques in chemistry
  • Study examples of percent yield calculations in various chemical processes

If I remember correctly $$yield=\frac {actual yield}{theoretical yield}$$so as long as you calculate and measure the same units (for an individual constituent) in should not matter.
