Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of a personal flying device utilizing multiple air compressors and hoses. Participants explore the theoretical implications of this concept, including its mechanics and comparisons to existing technologies.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • David proposes a theory involving 8-10 air compressors connected to his feet via hoses to achieve flight, expressing a desire for feedback on this idea.
  • One participant expresses skepticism about the practicality of using a 7 m hose attached to each foot for flight.
  • Another participant notes that air compressors and fans serve similar functions but differ in their emphasis on pressure versus flow rate, suggesting that a fan could be more appropriate for lifting a person.
  • A later reply humorously references the concept as similar to the fictional Iron Man suit, indicating a cultural connection to the idea.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the viability of David's theory, with skepticism and humor indicating multiple competing views on the concept.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of detailed analysis on the mechanics of flight, the assumptions regarding the effectiveness of air compressors for lift, and the absence of empirical data to support the proposed theory.

Hi,
My name is david and i was wondering if you would be able to see if my theory works. I don't know anything about physics but i do have a good inventive imagination.

I want to know if you had 8-10 air compressors at maximum pressure and a 7m hose and nozzle fore each compressor attached to you feet and some sort of thrust system would you be able to fly? I have put a lot of thought into this and just wondering if you would be able to correct me in this theory.

A 7 m hose attached to each foot. Hmmm...no.

FYI, air compressors and fans are fundamentally the same thing, but with a slightly different focus (one emphasizes pressure, the other flow rate). A fan used to lift a person is a helicopter.

Um...its called Iron Man lol (awesome movie btw)
