SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on aligning equations in LaTeX, specifically using the \begin{cases} command to format piecewise functions. The user seeks to align "f(x)" with "0" in the equation f(x) = x if x < 1 and 0 if x >= 1. The solution provided references a helpful resource on displaying formulas in LaTeX, specifically from Wikimedia's help page.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of LaTeX syntax
  • Familiarity with piecewise functions
  • Knowledge of mathematical notation in LaTeX
  • Access to LaTeX documentation or resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the \begin{cases} command in LaTeX
  • Explore LaTeX formatting for piecewise functions
  • Learn about aligning equations using the align environment in LaTeX
  • Review the Wikimedia help page on displaying formulas in LaTeX
USEFUL FOR

Mathematicians, students, educators, and anyone using LaTeX for typesetting mathematical equations will benefit from this discussion.

Just a quick latex question, does anyone know the command for equations like:

f(x) = x if x < 1
0 if x >= 1

where the x and the 0 line up, and you'd have a large { spread over the options?

Thanks for your help.
