SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the skepticism surrounding the claims of individuals like Magola, who assert the ability to attract objects to their bodies through magnetic powers. James Randi's critique highlights the lack of scientific validation for such phenomena, emphasizing that if these abilities were genuine, they would be widely recognized and studied. The conversation underscores the importance of empirical evidence in evaluating extraordinary claims, particularly in the context of the Law of Magnetic Attraction.

Law of Magnetic Attraction??Power of mind over matter??

Hello all you brainy people :-)

I am new to the forum and not a physicist.

You've GOT to be kidding!

Read this note from James Randi (see "Same Old Magnetic Flummery"):

Randi said:
Now, this man Magola wrote to the JREF as an applicant back in December of 1996. He claims not only to have the ability to attract metal, ceramic and wooden objects to his body, but also that he could levitate. In 1996, he appeared on an English television program called Beyond Belief, but was unable to levitate on that occasion, although his other demos created strong public interest. We exchanged many notes about his application, which suddenly ceased when I suggested that I would dust his skin with talcum powder before such a test. Perhaps Magola is allergic to talcum powder...?

And more (see A Sticky Person):
Randi said:
To cover the embarrassing fact that he has not replied, he has now made a claim that I already accept his powers. That's hardly the case. Just take a look at www.magola.com/English/welcome.html and you'll see that he's just another of the many untalented "magnetic" people, no better and no worse, and imagine what talcum powder would do to spoil that act.

Oh my!

Just ask yourself: If someone could really do this, then why don't you see it on the news and every talk show on TV? Why isn't this guy being paid gobs of money and being studied. Nothing this big would be at obscure internet links, with nothing but cheesy photos as evidence.
