OSX Yosemite has caused compatibility issues with MATLAB, prompting users to consider their options. The primary solutions discussed include upgrading to the latest version of MATLAB, R2014b, which offers significant new features and improvements for a $100 fee, or downgrading the operating system from Yosemite back to Mavericks. Some users are contemplating using Boot Camp to run Windows versions of MATLAB, while others express concerns about performance when using Parallels for virtualization. Additionally, there are ongoing frustrations regarding MATLAB's installation process on Unix-based systems.

Looks like OSX Yosemite broke Matlab. I don't want to spend 100$ to upgrade to this year's version just to make it work. Suggestions?

It's kind of a tough spot. You probably need to either upgrade MATLAB, or downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks.

Of the two options, I'd say upgrade to R2014b. It has tons of new features anyway (as well as a new graphics system), so it's well worth the $100.

I just thought of this. Gonna have to Boot Camp. Got a few copies of Windows here anyway.

Wanted to run Parallels but not sure about performance.

Matlab has always been a pain to install on Unix-based systems.
