SUMMARY

OSX 10.10 Yosemite is incompatible with Matlab R2013a, necessitating either an upgrade to Matlab R2014b or a downgrade to OSX Mavericks. Users express reluctance to pay $100 for the upgrade but acknowledge the benefits of new features and improved graphics in R2014b. Additionally, running Matlab on Windows via Boot Camp or Parallels is discussed, with concerns about performance on Unix-based systems.

Looks like OSX Yosemite broke Matlab. I don't want to spend 100$ to upgrade to this year's version just to make it work. Suggestions?

It's kind of a tough spot. You probably need to either upgrade MATLAB, or downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks.

Of the two options, I'd say upgrade to R2014b. It has tons of new features anyway (as well as a new graphics system), so it's well worth the $100.

I just thought of this. Gonna have to Boot Camp. Got a few copies of Windows here anyway.

Wanted to run Parallels but not sure about performance.

Matlab has always been a pain to install on Unix-based systems.
