The mooseling (?) is described as being exhausted, but not injured. Furthermore, a lonely m,oose cow had been prowling the woods in the vicinity, probably trying to find the kid. the rescuers "chased" the calf in the general direction of its mom, so hopefully, they rejoined.

Fair enough, but why would the mother leave baby Moose in a lurch on the ice then ? I do remember that I read that the mother was nearby the shore when the baby was rescued.

A picture comes to mind of the Tsunami disaster in Japan where a dog wouldn't leave it's owner trapped under debris for days and days.
