Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the unavailability of the NASA solar data site following a government shutdown, with participants expressing their interest in solar images and seeking alternatives for solar observations.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants note that the NASA solar data site has stopped updating photos of the sun and is experiencing server issues due to the government shutdown.
  • Others express a desire to know when the site might return to normal functionality.
  • There is a query about whether the European Space Agency (ESA) has a similar site for solar observations.
  • Participants share links to ESA and other NASA sites that may provide comparable solar images.
  • Some express a preference for relying on decentralized resources or European products in light of the current situation.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the disruption caused by the government shutdown and the need for alternative sources, but there is no consensus on the timeline for the NASA site’s return or the adequacy of the suggested alternatives.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include uncertainty regarding the duration of the site outage and the reliability of alternative sources for solar images.

TL;DR
I like to look at sun spot photos but site has been down.

Since the government shutdown this site stopped updating photos of the sun and now they seem to have server issues. I like looking at the day to day photos of the sun, but they still haven't gotten up and running again. Does anyone know when they might be back to normal?

What is there website? Same type of sun images comparable to a telephoto lens and solar filter?

Thanks. Hopefully eveeything gets funded again soon.
You are welcome. I hope so as well. What I have started to realize is that it is best to rely on decentralized stuff or European products instead.
