AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around solving part c of question 27 related to the Red Cross airlifting supplies. The user has successfully solved parts a and b of both questions 26 and 27, which involve calculating weight capacity for different supply items. However, they are struggling with part c of question 27, which requires determining the maximum number of containers that can be shipped considering both weight and volume constraints. The user is seeking clarification on how to approach this problem, specifically how to identify whether weight or volume is the limiting factor for each item. Additional input from others is encouraged to help clarify the user's confusion.

Q.26]The Red cross wants to airlift supplies into a south american country which has experienced an Earth quake.Four types of supplies each of which would be shipped in containers are being considered.One container of a particular item weighs 120,300,250 and 500 pounds respectively for four items. if the airplane to be used has a weight capacity of 60.000 pounds and xj equals the number of containers shipped into item j.

a] Determine the equation which ensures that the plane will be loaded to its weight capacity.solved

b] if it is decided to devote this plane to one supply item only, how many containers could be shipped of each item?solved

Q.27]each container of supply item require a specific volume of space.Suppose container of four items require 30,60,50 and 80 cubic feet respectively.if the volume capacity of the plane is 15000 cubic feet.

a] same as 26 solved

b] same as 26 solved

c]using the information from exercise 26 what is the maximum numbers of containers which could be shipped of each item if both weight and volume are considered?indicate in each case whether weight or volume capacity is the constraining factor.

For part c) of Q27, what did you try? If you post this, then our helpers can see where you are stuck and/or what mistakes you made and can better help you.

26 part [a] 120x1 +300x2 + 250x3 + 500x4 = 60000 ----------> Equation

26 part 120x1 =60000
x1 = 60000/120
x1 =500

same for x2 x3 and x4

part a and b of q27 are same as 26

But i don't understand the third part [c]...for each item if we have to take both weight and volume.how to do it...

Seemingly by some mathematical coincidence, a hexagon of sides 2,2,7,7, 11, and 11 can be inscribed in a circle of radius 7. The other day I saw a math problem on line, which they said came from a Polish Olympiad, where you compute the length x of the 3rd side which is the same as the radius, so that the sides of length 2,x, and 11 are inscribed on the arc of a semi-circle. The law of cosines applied twice gives the answer for x of exactly 7, but the arithmetic is so complex that the...
